LA MAROTTE

AN EARLY 19 CENTURY STONE VILLAGE COTTAGE SET IN THE SOUTH OF THE DORDOGNE

Ste Sabine - the village

The village is fairly typical southern Dordogne, standing on the crest of a hill, La Marotte is on the southern slope on the way out of the village.

In the centre of the village stands La Mairie, the infant school and Chez Edith, our local bar and restaurant. This serves good food both at lunch and in the evening. They have a swimming pool for the use of anyone who buys a drink and is the local centre of social activity especially at the end of a school day.

There is a boulangerie making traditional stone baked bread, they also sell a few other provisions, milk, butter and a few tins.

There is a second bar at the southern end of the village, very French and local. La Poste is two doors down the road

The village is a mix of local inhabitants either retired or going about their business. Our next door neighbour to the south is a cabinet maker and to the north a retired couple. The main industry is farming.
