This is our local town, about 5 minutes to the south. It is one of the beautiful Bastide towns dating from the 13th Century. It is built around a central timber structure with pan tiled roof and market area below. This houses a very popular market each Saturday with lots of local produce and people having fun.
There are a number of small shops, antiques, newspapers and a 8 to 8 mini supermarket (doesn't always stay open to its description).
The Bar Moderne to one side of the town square has extensive terrace and serves a superb daily lunch, menu changes daily, for about €10. (3 courses and wine)
On the outskirts of the town is La Maronniers this serves lunch and evening from pizza and pasta to full meals. They have a terrace and a super new (2003) conservatory restaurant.
The Intermarche (¼ mile outside the town towards Castillonnes) is similar to a small Sainsbury store. Fresh bread, Fruit and veg, fish and meat and an extensive deli counter in addition to the normal supermarket produce. They also sell some of the cheapest petrol and diesel in the area.
Along side the Intermarche is an excellent DIY shop, not that you will need it but fun to browse around.
Whilst you should be able to buy anything you need during your holiday at Villereal for more extensive shopping there are small chic shops in the centre of Bergerac (about 20 miles NW) and an extensive retail park and shopping mall centered around Le Clerc hypermarket to the south west of Bergerac.
